Dear Family Promise Family, November 10, 2020
10:00am
As you may remember, Family Promise has taken COVID very seriously from the beginning and was the first organization to modify programming and set up isolation procedures at the beginning of the pandemic. Those measures worked well for 8 months, but Family Promise of Spokane learned of its first confirmed COVID case on Thursday morning, Nov. 5, when a guest staying at the Open Doors Emergency Shelter called from a doctor’s office saying they had tested positive for COVID-19. We immediately arranged for that guest and their family to be transported directly from the doctor to an isolation facility. We then contacted the Spokane Regional Health District to begin the contact tracing process.
Since then, Family Promise has been working closely with the health district and CHAS (Community Health Association of Spokane) staff. After the initial guest was diagnosed, contact tracing determined this family had been in close contact with two other guest families and three of our staff members. The two families were tested and isolated and the three staff were tested. Each of those families and one staff member did have a positive COVID test return on Friday Nov 6. Representatives of CHAS tested all shelter guests and any staff that had been at the shelter since Monday Nov. 2.
We now have confirmed 17 total positive cases between guests and staff. All cases are currently asymptomatic or have just minor symptoms. We are still awaiting test results for several staff. All guests at the Open Doors Emergency Family shelter are quarantined on site for at least the next week.
We will not be taking any new guests or allowing anyone besides staff into the building at this time. We will continue to take donation drop offs at the front door by ringing the doorbell. If you would like to write a note of encouragement to our guests you can do so here https://www.familypromiseofspokane.org/give
Our Hartson Ave location is unaffected at this time.
Please keep our guests and staff in your thoughts and prayers.
